Liberal Democrat councillors for Saddleworth North Garth Harkness and Derek Heffernan have slammed the proposal to yet again consider closing the Dobcross Sorting office

Councillor Garth Harkness said “We campaigned as a community to save Dobcross sorting office in May 2014 successfully. After we highlighted the massive inconvenience of a 16 mile round trip to pick up parcels and not forgetting that the implication could be that we lose the post office altogether”.

“I’m totally shocked as we put forward our argument and they agreed last time that the sorting and post office needed to stay in Dobcross”

Councillor Derek Heffernan said “The closure of the post office would likely lead to the closure of Dobcross Post office and the only shop. We lobbied Royail Mail last time and we will do so again outlining that we need to maintain these vital services.

Councillor Garth Harkness and Derek Heffernan have written to Royal Mail and Post Office Ltd to highlight the dismay at the fact that the sorting office is yet again up for consideration for closure.
