Theresa May Show some compassion!

by Garth Harkness on 5 April, 2017

We see the Prime Minister wading in about Easter Eggs without getting the details first, whilst shamelessly talking to Saudi despots about arms sales.

Maybe if Theresa May wants to teach children about values she might want to start by looking at compassion. This Prime Ministers version of compassion seems to be limiting child benefits so poor children go hungry, cutting schools budgets so schools have to sack staff, not investing in the NHS so that the service is crumbling, and disregarding mental health.

The Prime Minister says she wants to make mental health a priority yet her minister tells disability benefits assessors to discriminate against people with mental health conditions.. Liberal Democrats in the Lords proposed a motion to kill the Government’s attempts to severely restrict disability benefits. Unfortunately this has been lost after Labour peers failed to support it. Thankfully we passed a motion I proposed in Oldham Council to ensure new safeguards for vulnerable benefit claimants living in our borough to reduce the number of these claimants who receive a benefit sanction.

This policy of hitting those who find it hardest to fight back, whilst giving a tax break for the richest, shows that the Prime Minister is out of touch with the real needs of most British people today and firmly in the camp of the privileged. She does not speak for all of us.
