The Liberal Democrats promised a comprehensive local environmental plan and it is taking shape. The ambitious target is a carbon-neutral council by 2030, and a carbon-neutral Saddleworth by 2035.
It will be wide-ranging, as everything affects our environment.
“Take planning”, says leader, Councillor Sam Al-Hamdani. “Building a new home releases 80 tonnes of CO2. Refurbishing an unused home releases around 8 tonnes.”
Meanwhile, Lib Dem Councillor Richard Darlington has been working on water quality in local streams, and has launched a Fairtrade initiative.Leave a comment
