Garth Harkness, Lib Dem Councillor and Shadow cabinet member for Skills and Employment has called on the education secretary to provide further resources to help refuges overcome the barriers in starting a new life in this country

In his letter to Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education he says “Refugee Action has launched a campaign to “Let Refugees Learn” to get timely access to English classes in order to contribute back to the country and community that has offered them a new home

City of Sanctuary said “We are pleased to note that a letter has been sent by Cllr Garth Harkness, Shadow Cabinet Member for Skills and Employment, Oldham Council to Nicky Morgan Secretary of State for Education with a request for more funding for English language classes for refugees.  We in City of Sanctuary support this campaign and we hope that many more councils will follow this lead.  “
