Call for safety measures in Dobcross and to back a 20MPH scheme

by Garth Harkness on 6 November, 2019

At the Oldham Council meeting on Wednesday 6th November 2019 Councillor Garth Harkness has asked for safety measures in Dobcross and for the council to back a 20MPH limit. This is following recent damage in Dobcross due to HGV vehicles and a campaign by local residents

Councillor Garth Harkness said

“The cabinet member may be aware of the incidents in Dobcross recently where HGV vehichles tried to go through the Square and damaged the memorial and a property. I am sure the cabinet member would join me in thanking the council officers and emergency services for their great work afterwards

The cabinet member will be aware of a motion the Liberal Democrats put forward around Lorry Watch. Would they look at introducing weight restrictions and signs in the area of Dobcross

Another thing the residents are petitioning for is a 20MPH default limit across Dobcross. The Liberal Democrats proposed some time ago that Oldham join the 20 plenty campaign. This would see a borough wide 20MPh limit on residential roads. Sadly it was not taken up at the time

Would they look at this again or at least look at introducing such a scheme in Dobcross?
