The existing masonry retaining wall that supports the A62 Huddersfield Road, Scouthead is in a severely dilapidated condition and has already collapsed in two separate locations.

The works to do so are scheduled to commence on Monday, 20th July 2020 and will take approximately 20 weeks to complete.

It is the intention of the Council to stabilise this highway structure.  The works to do so are scheduled to commence on Monday, 20th July 2020 and will take approximately 20 weeks to complete.

In order to facilitate the construction works, two-way temporary traffic signals will be installed on the A62 between the Saddleworth Stars Nursery and no. 1117 Huddersfield Road.  In an attempt to ensure that traffic can flow freely along this stretch of road, temporary parking restrictions on both sides of the road will be in operation between Doctor Lane and Higher Turf / Lower Turf Lane.  The length of the parking restriction may seem long when compared to the length of the retaining wall being stabilised but this has been recommended by Unity Partnership’s Traffic team to accommodate a possible stacking situation should an unusual volume of traffic occur at this location.

The above parking restriction may cause inconvenience to some businesses and residents during the construction period and every effort will be undertaken to minimise this disruption.

A letter will be delivered to all affected residents and business on Monday, 13th July 2020 to inform them of Works and the parking restrictions
